David Daisley was the final child of John Daisley of Scotland and Catherine nee Glen of Ireland. David's father, John was a plumber and before David's birth, had moved his family from Dundee, Scotland to Leicester where he obtained a job as Waterworks Inspector. David was born in Leicester, England. The family, when David was born, consisted of a seventeen year old brother John, a fourteen year old sister, Catherine aka Kitty, a twelve year old sister Agnes Dora, a nine year old sister Alice, a six year old sister Jemima aka Minnie, and a five year old sister Edith. A year after David's oldest brother was born, the family had baby boy James who lived eighteen days and two years later, a sister Elizabeth who did not survive. David Daisley's middle name, Watson, was given in honor of a family who were good friends of the Daisleys. David's mother, Catherine died when David was six years old and his sister Alice died a month later, so there would have been much sadness in the family. The following year, David's father remarried - to spinster Ann Barkby, a milliner. Life got quite difficult for the children according to a cousin, as their father expected all the children to wait on him and his new wife and he became quite a tyrant. David's sister Catherine (Kitty) married the year her mother died and his brother John married two years later. A few years later, his sister Minnie moved away to take a job in Rugby, England and Agnes decide she was moving even farther away so emigrated to Canada. She took David along with her and found him work in Ontario with the Andrew Thompson family in the sub-district of Warwick in Lambton East while she moved to Sarnia to take pre - arranged employment with the Joseph Kennedy family. When David was nineteen he headed West to Prince Albert where his older brother John lived. John had married in England but later emigrated to Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. David lived with his brother and family and got employment as a clerk in the O.B. Manville Hardware, then as a tinsmith. He applied for a homestead patent in the Paddockwood area when he was twenty - one and started building a cabin but was interrupted when the call came out for young men to serve in World War One. 22 year old David enlisted in the 53rd Battalion Prince Albert Volunteers in the Canadian Expeditionary Force but was later transferred to the 5th Canadian. He was standing sentry in Ypres, Belgium at the time of his death on April 24, 1916.
