Dean was my mother Brenda's brother. She married Leonard Nieman and became an Air Force Wife. As a military child, I didn't get to visit family as often as the rest of my cousins and their families, but when we were able to, it was usually Christmas or in summer. I remember my Uncle Dean as a very funny man who was good with us nieces and was always joking and entertaining us. I remember his joke about "2 Special Patty's and the school bus," one of the few I could ever remember. When all of us nieces grew up and had children, he continued to be the center of entertainment at family get togethers.
He was also a loving, sensitive, and giving person and was very generous to family, friends, and strangers with his time, affection, abilities, and gifts. The last time I saw him was at Christmas get together of 2009 at my Uncle Doug and Aunt Sandy's House in Groton, CT. The last time I felt his presence by my bedside was shortly after his death, and I knew he was at peace.
