    Dean W. Guler, 52, of 2367 Burr Oak Drive, died at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2010, after a courageous fight with multiple sclerosis and a brain aneurysm. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 20, at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road, with the Rev. John Sorenson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, Iowa. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. He was born on Sept. 25, 1957, in Dubuque, son of Earl and Marlene (Boffeli) Guler. He graduated from Hempstead High School in 1976. He attended Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny, Iowa, graduating with a degree in heavy equipment technology. He married Rosanne M. Goerdt, on Feb. 20, 1982, at St. Columbkille's Church. Dean was employed with the Dubuque County Highway Department. He was a volunteer fireman and EMT for Asbury Fire Dept. for 15 years and was inducted into the Dubuque County Fire Association Hall of Fame in 2009. Dean enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially Dale Earnhardt. He also enjoyed the outdoors, camping, fishing, hunting and boating. He loved music and was proud to be a "manager" for his favorite band, Lost Image. Surviving are his wife, Rose; his children, Nick and Amanda (Justin Hoffmann), both at home; his parents, Earl and Marlene; a brother, Wayne (Jean) and their children, Brian, Justin and Alicia; a sister, Penny (Jim Wulfekuhle), and their children, Emily, Tracy and Brooke; his in-laws, Robert (Doreen) Goerdt, and family, John (Diane) Goerdt, and family, and Mike (Cindy) Goerdt, and family. He was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Robert and Opal Goerdt Sr.; and a brother-in-law, Scott Goerdt. - Dubuque Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, Iowa) on May 19, 2010.
