Dolorosa was from a German background. Her grandson, Dave (David John Runkle), said that she was a fabulous cook. She would bake a different dessert every night – pies, donuts, cookies – and everything turned out perfect. Her quirk was that she would only allow you to have one of whatever she made – one slice of pie, one cookie, one doughnut. (David said he remembers that once he had some money and so he went down to the store and bought a whole box of donuts and ate them all and was very sick afterward.) Her grandson, Bob (Robert Lee Runkle), remembers that Dolorosa had a “nice voice” although she never sang professionally.
