    Don Maurice Hattan was born to Grover Clyde Hattan (1884 - 1965) and Lida Goldie Moore (1886 - 1965). His father was born in Kansas and his mother was born in Indiana. He had four siblings: Garland, Caroline, William, and Barbara Jo "Bo" Hattan. Enlisting in the United States Army on October 6, 1941, Don was a veteran of World War II. Don Hattan married Juanita Preboth (1913 - 1994) in 1942 and they had three sons: James Bruce, Jerry, and John Allen Hattan.
