He had a brother Robert Lynn George. Donald was baptized in Winston-Salem. He married Barbara Ann (Bowman) George on August 1954, and they were married until Donald's death on January 22, 2000 in Winston-Salem, Forsyth County. He had children Frank Preston George and Sandra Kay (George) Tumlin. Donald George was buried Columbarium at Dilworth United Methodist Church 605 East Blvd., in Charlotte.

Donald was a volunteer Chaplain at Mercy Hospital from 1998-99. Served part time as a temporary minister to a church in Charlotte from late 1999 until his death.

In 1935, in the year that Donald F George was born, on August 14, the Social Security Act was signed into law. The purpose was to "provide federal assistance to those unable to work". The law established the Social Security Administration whose primary focus was to "provide aid for the elderly, the unemployed, and children". The Act survived many Supreme Court challenges and the Administration continues until today.
