He had a brother Ronnie Steen. He married Rebecca Lou (Driver) Steen on October 10, 1975, and they were married until Donnie's death on September 11, 2010. He had children Bridget Lynn (Steen) Cox and Tracy Lou (Steen) Ladd. Donnie Steen was buried on September 13, 2010 in Lafayette, Macon County, TN.
