She eventually married Stephen Georgalas who was born in Greece on the island of Chios. His family came to Warren, Ohio to live with friends and relatives in the thriving Greek community there. His family had a small grocery store. He attended school until junior high age and then worked at the store. He later worked at a local steel mill. Together Doris and Steve raised six children: Robert, Tom, Eugenia, Alexander, Ellen and Stephen. They had 15 grandchildren. The family was tightly knit and spent wonderful times together celebrating holidays and birthdays. Doris was an adoring grandmother and avid bingo player. Steve loved to fish throughout the year and passed that on to his sons and grandsons.

In 1911, in the year that Doris Georgalas was born, the first use of aircraft as an offensive weapon occurred in the Turkish-Italian War. First used for aerial reconnaissance alone, planes were then used in aerial combat to shoot down recon planes. In World War I, planes and zeppelins evolved for use in bombing.
In 1926, when she was just 15 years old, on October 31st, Harry Houdini died in Michigan. Houdini was the most famed magician of his time and perhaps of all time, especially for his acts involving escapes - from handcuffs, straitjackets, chains, ropes slung from skyscrapers, and more. He was president of the Society of American Magicians and stringently upheld professional ethics. He died of complications from a ruptured appendix. Although he had received a blow to the area a couple of days previously, the connection between the blow and his appendicitis is disputed.
In 1939, at the age of 28 years old, Doris was alive when on the 1st of September, Nazi Germany invaded Poland. On September 17th, the Soviet Union invaded Poland as well. Poland expected help from France and the United Kingdom, since they had a pact with both. But no help came. By October 6th, the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany held full control of the previously Polish lands. Eventually, the invasion of Poland lead to World War II.
In 1947, at the age of 36 years old, Doris was alive when on April 15th, Jackie Robinson joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, playing first base. He was the first black man to play in the Major Leagues. Since the 1880's, professional baseball had been segregated and blacks played in the "Negro leagues". He went on to play for 10 years.
In 1982, in the year of Doris Georgalas's passing, on September 14th, Princess Grace of Monaco (American actress Grace Kelly), 52, died of injuries when her car plunged off a mountain road. Her 17 year old daughter, Stephanie, was also in the car and suffered serious injuries but recovered. It's believed that the accident was caused when Princess Grace, who was driving, had a mild stroke.
