Dorothea Grace (Jarrett) Briggs of Prahran, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born in 1882 in Port to George Jarrett and Mary Ann (Kean) Jarrett. She had siblings Thomas Kean Jarrett, Martha Elizabeth Jarrett, John Goodall Jarrett, Hannah Kean Jarrett, Florence Alice Jarrett, Victoria Isabel Jarrett, William Arthur Jarrett, Elizabeth Martha Jarrett, Stephen George Jarrett, James Hennings Jarrett, Ellen Mooney Jarrett, and Mary Ann Jarrett. She married James Alfred Briggs in 1906, and had children Dorothea Martha Briggs and John Alfred Gethings Briggs. Dorothea Briggs died at age 88 years old on November 13, 1971 in Prahran.

It lit one square mile of lower Manhattan and was powered by coal. The "electrical age" had begun.

In 1909, at the age of 27 years old, Dorothea was alive when the U.S. penny was changed to the Abraham Lincoln design. The Lincoln penny was so popular that it soon had to be rationed and it sold on the secondary market for a quarter. Abraham Lincoln was the first historical figure to be on a U.S. coin - which was released to commemorate his 100th birthday. This penny was also the first U.S. cent to include the words "In God We Trust.".
