Toward the end of her illness, Dorothy was a resident of Hinds Hospice, 1416 W. Twain, Fresno, CA. Upon her death, her immediate arrangements and wake were handled by Tinkler Funeral Home, 475 N. Broadway, Fresno. Dorothy's Grandson David S. Poulsen provided the following poem for her November 20, 1999 Memorial Service at the United Japanese Christian Church (Rev. Roger Morimoto). The poem was read by Dorothy's Grandson Zachery F. Poulsen: Dorothy Hope A Poem to Grandma from Dave One less sunbeam shines down on Clovis these mornings; God took Dorothy Hope Poulsen to be by His side. For nearly thirty-four years, she was my Grandma, Always she was a source of much love and pride. She knew I had a disability of cerebral palsy; Grandma taught me to grin and bear it; Pity was very much against Grandma's policy; Grandma knew the disability was not a chain, I could not wear it. I saved almost everything Grandma ever sent, Be it a little postcard or a longer note; Oh, how much those dispatches meant, Each writing served as a confidence vote. So as we justifiably mourn the loss of Grandma's fine spirit, Let us not sit around too long and mope; We all know Grandma would not the thought entertain, After all, she was named Dorothy Hope!
