Doug was my best friend and by best friend I mean the best possible human in all of existence to have by your side in any and all circumstances. I only wish I could have been a better friend to him, he deserved more than he was given. I hope he knows that. I pray he can hear my thoughts and know he is terribly missed. His soul was an elder one as I'm sure he had been here since the beginning of time. His love and knowledge of nature was inspiring and the stories he told of his hunting days were to be forever remembered and etched in all our minds. Doug wasn't a material man he was a simple man and could make the most beautiful works of art with a tree. He would give you everything he had if you needed it and would even go without the comforts of home if it saved more money for your adventures and above all else if his integrity demanded it. He was in love with his grand daughter that was born on his birthday almost as much as he loved Amanda but you would never know how deep his love ran because he didn't know how to express it especially with his children, his upbringing I could tell confused his way of building a relationship with his daughter. I hope you know how much your father loved you Amanda and your daughter. The way he would light up when they locked eyes and he didn't know anyone was watching, priceless. He was my best friend and I was honored to know him.
