Douglas Stanley Westwood 1892 - 1959

Douglas Stanley Westwood of Brighton, City of Bayside County, VIC Australia was born in 1892 in Brighton to Henry William Westwood and Ann Schofield Westwood. He had siblings Robert Westwood, William Henry Westwood, Flora Beatrice Westwood, Ruby Westwood, Elsie Westwood, and Walter Hry Westwood. He married Jane Marion Lemon in 1915, and had a child Royce Westwood. Douglas Westwood died at age 66 years old in January 1959 at Middle Brighton in Brighton.

In 1892, in the year that Douglas Stanley Westwood was born, on October 5th, the Dalton Gang was shot. The Gang was attempting to rob two banks - simultaneously - in Coffeyville Kansas but word spread of the robberies and townspeople with guns greeted them when they left the banks. Four members of the gang were killed - only Emmett Dalton survived his wounds and spent 14 years in prison.

In 1921, when he was 29 years old, hugely popular Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle, silent film star, was arrested for rape and manslaughter after an actress died following a party at his house. He was acquitted after three trials and the jury wrote a formal letter apologizing for the charges, but his career never recovered. His films were at first banned - the ban was lifted after a year - and he was mostly ostracized by the community. He died at 46..
