Kenneth Carlyle Lasseter MD of North Miami Beach, Miami-Dade County, Florida United States was born on August 12, 1942 in Jacksonville, Duval County to Retta (Shad) Lasseter and James Lasseter. He had a brother James Lasseter. He married Kathleen G Lasseter, and they were married until Kenneth's death on June 30, 2023 in Miami-Dade County. He had children Susan (Lasseter) Dubrof, Kenneth C Lasseter III, and Frank L Graves III. Kenneth Lasseter was buried on July 6, 2023.

  • Introduction

    In later years Dr. Kenneth Lasseter's his health deteriorated, and he underwent a Quadruple Coronary Artery bypass, but congestive failure proved to be a serious challenge and eventually took his life. Dr. Lasseter passed peacefully on June 30, 2023.

    Kenneth C. Lasseter was born in Jacksonville, Florida, to James and Retta Shad Lasseter. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Kathleen G. Lasseter and three children: Susan Lasseter Dubrof (David), Kenneth C. Lasseter III, and Frank L. Graves III. There are six surviving grandchildren: Kenneth C. Lasseter IV, Joshua H. Sherman, Eliana Lasseter Sherman, Kyle C. Lasseter, Kayden C. Lasseter and Karsen C. Lasseter. He is also survived by Sister-in-law Jean Marks and her son Steven Colletti, as well as an elder brother James Lasseter and his wife Barbara Rouse Lasseter and their two sons Jay Lasseter (Vicky) and Barry Lasseter.

  • Early Life & Education

    He attended Fletcher High School. He was accepted into the Early Admissions and Advanced Studies Program at Stetson University and graduated with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1963. Subsequently, he matriculated into medical school at University of Florida College of Medicine graduating with the M.D. degree in 1967. He completed an internship, Medical Residency and Fellowship in Cardiology at University of Kentucky Medical School Hospital and, then, joined the faculty of University of Miami Medical School as Assistant Professor and, then, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Medicine.
  • Professional Career

    He was Board Certified by the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology and was instrumental in developing a clinical pharmacology research unit at UM. He recognized the need for such a Unit outside of academia and, in 1981,he and E. Cooper Shamblen opened Clinical Pharmacology Associates. Over the next 40 years Dr. Lasseter completed some 1200 sponsored projects and published over 350 papers in the medical literature. Much of this work was presented at National and International Meetings.
  • Personal Life & Family

    He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. Dr. Lasseter was an avid big game fisherman, and he and his boat, the Rivergate, were well known in the Bahamas, especially Bimini and Green Turtle Cay in the Abacos.

In 1942, in the year that Dr. Kenneth C Lasseter was born, on February 19th, President Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. This authorized the Secretary of War to "prescribe certain areas as military zones." On March 21st, he signed Public Law 503 which was approved after an hour discussion in the Senate and 30 minutes in the House. The Law provided for enforcement of his Executive Order. This cleared the way for approximately 120,000 men, women, and children of Japanese ancestry to be evicted from the West Coast and to be held in concentration camps and other confinement sites across the country. In Hawaii, a few thousand were detained. German and Italian Americans in the U.S. were also confined.

In 1957, at the age of merely 15 years old, Kenneth was alive when on September 24th, the "Little Rock Nine" (nine African-American students) entered Little Rock High School. Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus had previously prevented the students from entering the school at the beginning of the term with the Arkansas National Guard - they blocked the door. President Eisenhower ordered federal troops - the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Army - to guard the students and allow them entry.
