    Earl James Lecompte was born on February 8th, 1937 in Big Rock, Illinois to Carl J. Lecompte (1903 - 1981) and Cora G. Loeber (1905 - 1996). He had six siblings: four brothers; Carl, Elwood, Wayne Lee, and Earlvin James, who was Earl's twin; and two sisters. Earl J. LeCompte Sr. married Cecil M. LeCompte. Earl was a veteran of the United States Army Air Force, serving from February of 1954 through February of 1958. Earl James LeCompte died on October 6, 2002 in Aurora, Illinois,about six months before his twin, Earlvin. Earl was 65 years old at the time and is buried in Illinois.

In 1937, in the year that Earl J Lecompte was born, on May 6th, the German zeppelin the Hindenburg caught fire and blew up. The Hindenburg was a passenger ship traveling to Frankfurt Germany. It tried to dock in New Jersey, one of the stops, and something went wrong - it blew up. Thirty-six people were killed out of the 97 on board - 13 passengers, 22 crewmen, and one ground worker. The reasons for the explosion are still disputed.
