Edgar Oliver DeBourge of Lebanon, Saint Clair County, IL was born on September 1, 1909 in Prairie du Rocher, Randolph County to Anna Mae (Charleville) DeBourge and Perry A. DeBourge. He had siblings Vetal Debourge, Francis J. DeBourge, Edna C. (DeBourge) Nakisher, Cletus Debourge, and Robert DeBourge. He married Theresa (Nivois) DeBourge, and had a child David Julius DeBourge. Edgar DeBourge died at age 101 years old on December 17, 2010.

    Edgar Oliver DeBourge was born on September 1st, 1909 in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois, one of six children. He married Theresa DeBourge, "Nivois" also of Prairie du Rocher, Illinois at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Prairie du Rocher, Illinois on December 28, 1931. On June 23, 1942, Edgar was ordered to report for induction into military service in WWII. He served as a member of the 95th Infantry Division during WWII and participated in the invasion of Europe, serving in Northern France, The Rhineland and Central Europe. He participated in the Omaha Beach invasion in the liberation of France and his 95th Division was later designated the "Iron Men of Metz" for their liberation of the city of Metz, France. He personally was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantry Badge along with numerous campaign medals including the Victory Medal, American Theatre Ribbon, European-African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Up until the last 10 years he enjoyed attending the 95th Infantry Division annual reunions which were held annually each year in a different city across the United States. He looked forward to getting together with his old WWII Army Buddies. He has always been an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. Edgar and his Theresa were long time members of St. Augustine's Parish, moving into the parish in the early sixties, about the time Msgr. Kuhl was Pastor and Msgr Voss was his new Assisitant Priest. Edgar retired as a supervisor from the Madison Terminal Warehouse Company in St. Louis, Missouri in the middle 1970s. Both were active members of the Parish, Theresa belonging to the quilting club and Edgar frying fish for the weekly, "Holzschnitters" and the American Legion. Edgar was preceded in death by his wife, Theresa A., nee Nivois, DeBourge; his parents, Perry and Anna Mae, nee Charleville, DeBourge and many brothers and sisters and a brother-in-law, Wayne Nivois. Edgar is survived by his son, David J. (Kathryn) DeBourge; Loving Grandchildren, Tricia (Ken) Phillips, Greg (Jennifer) DeBourge, Susan (Al) Wood and Tony Meadows; and 12 Loving Great-Grandchildren ranging in age from 2 to 28 years old and many numerous Nieces and Newphews and Friends. Also surviving are Jackie (Harold) Lutman, Annette (Tom) Steibel, Marlene (Paul) Huebner, Paul (Diane) Hunter, Betty Schneider, "DeBourge," Paul DeBourge, Ruth Ann DeBourge, Arvella Nivois, Donald Nivois, Shirley Nivois, Joanne Nivois, Vernon (May Belle) DeBourge, Dorothy (Charles Busch), Sharon (Joseph Marquardt), Anna Mae (Lewis Asselmeier) and Margaret (Charles Schilling). Memorials may be made to Cedar Ridge Nursing Home, #1 Perryman, Lebanon, Ill., 62254. Condolences may be offered at www.lakeviewfuneralhm.com Visitation: Friends may call from 12:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Lake View Funeral Home, 5000 North Illinois Street., Fairview Heights, Illinois 62208 Funeral: Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Lake View Funeral Home. Interment will be held privately in Lake View Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights, Illinois.

The organization focused on legal strategies designed to confront the critical civil rights issues of the day - which included lynching and segregation in schools. The goal was to secure for all people the rights guaranteed in the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution.

In 1921, when he was merely 12 years old, in May, the Emergency Quota Act - or Emergency Immigration Act - was passed. The law restricted the number of immigrants to 357,000 per year. It also established an immigration quota in which only 3 per cent of the total population of any ethnic group already in the USA in 1910, could be admitted to America after 1921. Although the Act was supposed to be temporary, it stayed in effect until 1965.
