Ethel Carow Roosevelt (born 8/13/1891, died 12/10/1977) married Dr. Richard Derby (a surgeon) on April 4, 1913. She (a nurse) and her husband both served in France during World War 1.

During her life, Ethel Roosevelt Derby worked for civil rights and while she was a Republican, she referred to herself as a "liberal Republican."

Edith Kermit Carow Roosevelt, Teddy Roosevelt's 2nd wife and First Lady of the United States, 1901 - 1909.

Edith and Teddy were childhood friends and began seeing each other after the death of his first wife. They had five children.

She campaigned against FDR (her husband's nephew) because she thought Eleanor wouldn't make a good First Lady!
