Edith Warren Hillis, 95, a native of Huntsville passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015. Mrs. Hillis was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Edward Hillis at the early age of 34. Having the two children to raise by herself, she developed a clientele for which she sewed for the public to support her family and was highly regarded as a professional seamstress. She was also a babysitter for many children of working parents. Edith was affiliated with Jackson Way Baptist Church since the age of two weeks. She was a dedicated worker in many phases of church activity including Sunday School, Training Union, Bible School, and as Youth Choir Sponsor for ten years. Perhaps the biggest and most proud area of Edith’s church activity was her responsibility as General Sunday School Secretary for over 30 years. In her later years, she had time to enjoy crafts, quilting, yardwork, child care, and cooking. Edith summed up her life by saying that her calling was to care for children, cook for her family, and especially “do something for someone else." Visitation will be from 6pm to 8pm Wednesday at Spry Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating her life of 95 years will be at 1pm Thursday in the Spry Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Michael Cassity, Rev. Tim Tatum, and Rev. John Herndon officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery. --- Mar. 23, 1920 - May 17, 2015 Edith Warren Hillis, 95, a native of Huntsville passed away Sunday, May 17, 2015.
