Edmel came from the Philippines with his mother and father, younger brother JV and his little sister. This happened somewhere around him being in 7th or 8th grade. He was very proud of his heritage and it was an honor to learn about his culture with him. I remember he told me when he got off the plane he saw all of the cedar trees we have in Texas, and he said he thought "Wow, they eat broccolis THIS big? No wonder Americans are so strong." • Early Life & Education

He graduated 2003 from Harker Heights High School.
  • Professional Career

He was a teacher. I believe out near Denton. West Northern Texas for sure.
  • Personal Life & Family

He was on the football team for Killeen High School in 9th grade and Harker Heights High School for 10th-12th I believe. He had played defensive end. Edmel was incredibly social. He hung out with a lot of different people, mostly the atheletes, the in-crowd, but I was his skater buddy and best friend. He live around the block from me so we spent a lot of time together. He would always try to get me to dress nicely and to behave in public, but he never judged me, just thought I was wild. I remember his mom would serve me all these amazingly rich cultural foods. The one time he got all crazy was because this one dish had pork's blood in it as a broth, and he thought it would disgust people. He was normally level headed, sometimes a little mischievous, but well intended and put together. When I ate the pork's blood he freaked out like started running around the room trying to get me to stop and making sure i swore that I wouldn't tell anyone. lol like it was really a big thing to him. I remember when he first got his license, he had already bought his car from his dad so he was ready to scoop me up for our first taste of freedom. He was so excited and confident that he was assuring my grandmother over and over how we'd wear our seatbelts and drive under the speed limit and whatnot, and he was so busy telling me all the things we were going to do that as he was waving bye to my grandma and backing out of the driveway, he nailed my maillbox and knocked it off the hinge! LOL First day, first ride, first accident. We fixed the mailbox and went on about our day of freedom. He had worked at the commissary on post with his mom for a while but then worked at HEB in Heights. ^ This is Michael McCuskey, I go by Azrael now. Edmel was my best friend and I still miss him. He was a great person and I'd like to think I wouldn't judge who deserves to die or not, but if anyone didn't it was Edmel. The guy was an amazing friend that got me through a lot of hard times, he was polite and quirky, quick thinking and always up to something. Never anything bad, just Edmel things. He was subbing for awhile and then had regular students for about half a year. He would wear his gold grill and his students respected him for it. I never saw him in action but I know he was a damn good teacher. It was his nature. relaxed yet firm, cool and kind. Anyways, if anyone wants to reminisce about my homie, feel free to get at me 36oh-524-2388
