He married Eleanor Brownhill in 1936, and died at age 68 years old on September 3, 1966 at Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital, in Heidelberg West, Banyule City County, Victoria. Edward Brownhill was buried at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, 600 Princes Hwy, in Springvale, Greater Dandenong City County, VIC.
