He enlisted on January 27, 1941 in Jersey City New Jersey and was ranked as a Corporal in the Coast Artillery Corps. He served until his discharge date of September 22, 1943. Edward was married to Laurel Deane Cox (1926-2004) and they had children together; Edward Joseph (1949-1997) and James Reid Chupinski (1956-2007).
