Edward Charles Fletcher 1855 - 1951

Edward Charles Fletcher of Collingwood Australia was born in 1855 in Collingwood to Edward Fletcher and Alice Mary Tempest Fletcher. Edward Fletcher had a brother Jack Fletcher. He married Jane (Dalrymple) Fletcher in 1877. They had children Charles Edward Fletcher, Bertram Frederick Frank Fletcher, Leonard George Fletcher, and Harold William Fletcher. He also married Margaret Agnes (Heath) Fletcher in 1894. They had a child Ella Margaret Fletcher. Edward Fletcher died at age 96 years old in 1951 in Parkville.

In 1855, in the year that Edward Charles Fletcher was born, on November 17th, David Livingstone, a Scottish missionary and explorer, became the first known European to see Victoria Falls. He named the falls in honor of Queen Victoria but locally it was - and is - Mosi-oa-Tunya, which means "The Smoke That Thunders".
