Edward D'Ombrain 1833 - 1907

Edward D'Ombrain was born in 1833 in Dublin, County Dublin Ireland to James D'Ombrain R.N. and Mary Furley. He was in a relationship with Catherine Emily (Fetherstonhaugh) D'Ombrain, and had children Francis Robert D'Ombrain, Frederick George D'Ombrain, William Charles (Furnley) D'Ombrain, Ethel Mary (D'Ombrain) Hooke, James D'Ombrain, Moriet Frances D'Ombrain, Norman Athelstan Wolseley D'Ombrain, and Edith Gertrude (D'Ombrain) Featherstonhaugh. Edward D'Ombrain died at age 74 years old in 1907 in Hawthorn, Boroondara City County, VIC Australia, and was buried at Boroondara General Cemetery 430 High St, in Kew.

In 1833, in the year that Edward D'Ombrain was born, on August 12th, Chicago was incorporated as a town at the estuary of the Chicago River by 350 settlers. Chicago’s first permanent resident was a trader named Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, a free black man -perhaps from Haiti - who went there in the late 1770s. At first, it was simply a trading post but it grew quickly, going from trading post to town to city in 1837.
