He married Isabella Sarah (Eustace) Kells, and had children Arthur Edward Kells, Francis Henry Kells, Alfred Herbert Kells, Sydney Thomas Kells, Edith May Kells, and Ivy Leona Kells. Edward Kells died at age 75 years old on August 5, 1949 in Alphington.
