Edward Gagnon of Richford, Franklin County, VT was born on February 4, 1908 to Mary Lena Gagnon (Née Bessette) and Edmund Alexander Gagnon. He had siblings Herchel Gagnon and Frederick Patrick Gagnon. Edward Gagnon married Dorothy Gagnon (Née Peao), and died at age 81 years old on July 9, 1989.

In 1908, in the year that Edward Gagnon was born, a 7.1 earthquake and the resulting tsunami killed 70,000 to 100,000 people in southern Italy and Sicily. The earthquake, lasting 30 to 40 seconds, occurred in the Strait of Messina which was between the region of Calabria (at the "toe" of Italy) and the island of Sicily and destruction from it occurred in a 186 mile radius. It was the most destructive earthquake ever to hit Europe.

In 1928, at the age of 20 years old, Edward was alive when Mickie Mouse was born! He first appeared in Disney's Steamboat Willie, along with Minnie. Although they were in two previous shorts, this was the first to be distributed. Steamboat Willie took advantage of the new technology and was a "talkie" - music was coordinated with the animation. It became the most popular cartoon of its day.
