He had siblings Caroline Ivy Membrey, Alice Membrey, Claude Membrey, James Stanley Membrey, Beatrice Olive Membrey, and Albert George Membrey. Edward Membrey married Alice Mary Hopkins in 1925, and died at age 58 years old on April 24, 1962 in Melbourne.
