Edward James Lustberg Jr. was born on February 14, 1944 in Queens, Queens County, New York United States to Edward James Lustberg and Ellen Patricia Lustberg, and had siblings Marilyn Ann Surdakowski, Gerard Thomas Lustberg, Gregory David Lustberg, Patricia Elizabeth Hothersall, Laura Jean Matheos, Gary Stephen Lustberg, Robert Michael Lustberg, Douglas John Lustberg, Ronald Joseph Lustberg, Wayne Eugene Lustberg, and Debra Marie Papert. He married Patricia Ann Lustberg on June 8, 1963 in Richmond Hill, Queens County, and they were married until Edward's death on January 19, 2010 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. He had children Paula Marie Cerefice, Edward James Lustberg III, and Lori Anne Smith. Edward Lustberg was buried on January 23, 2010 at Ridgeview Memorial Park 2525 Central Expy N, in Allen, Collin County.

In 1944, in the year that Edward James Lustberg Jr. was born, on June 6th, the largest amphibious invasion in history was launched - the Normandy landing (called D-Day). Soldiers from the United States, Britain, Canada, and the Free French landed on Normandy Beach and were later joined by Poland, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Greece, and the Netherlands. Almost 5,000 landing and assault craft, 289 escort vessels, and 277 minesweepers were involved. Nearly 160,000 troops crossed the English Channel on D-Day - Allied casualties on the first day were at least 10,000. 4,414 were confirmed dead.
