He had siblings Peter Henry Giggins, Rosetta Mary (Giggins) Fletcher, Euphemia Elizabeth (Giggins) Mcrae, Ernest James Giggins, and Daisy Ruth Florence (Giggins) Maw. He married Catherine Isabella (Kelly) Giggins, and had children Daisy Isabel Giggins, Jinnie Elizabeth Giggins, Alice Maud Giggins, and Edna Frances Giggins. Edward Giggins died at age 76 years old in 1944 in Edon.

The Fourteenth Amendment guaranteed African Americans full citizenship and equal protection under the law. It also gave all persons in the United States due process of law. The former Confederate states hotly contested the amendment but were forced to go along so that they could regain representation in Congress
