    Edward Joseph Kabala was born on September 23, 1917 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to parents George and Mary Kabala. He was the middle child with older brother Walter Kabala and younger brother Joseph Kabala. He registered for the WWII draft on October 16, 1940, in Philadelphia. At the time, he was 23 years old, unmarried, and worked as a machinist apprentice. On March 24, 1944, Edward enlisted in the military at New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, as a Selectee. This meant that he was drafted into service and had no branch assignment at the time of his enlistment. Edward eventually joined the Air Force and served as a Private. Edward completed his training and served in the military for over two years until he was honorably discharged on May 22, 1946. Edward married Cecelia Kleinot (1920–2013) on May 10, 1947 and they had a daughter together.
