Edward, James and Mary all born in Edinburgh Scotland Thomas born Williamstown Victoria Australia. All came to Australia pre 1856.

In 1818, in the year that Edward Pitt was born, on April 4th, the United States Congress adopted the official flag of the United States. It had 13 red and white stripes - representing the original 13 colonies - and one star for each state (twenty at the time) with additional stars to be added whenever a new state was added to the Union.

In 1832, by the time he was merely 14 years old, by February 12th, a cholera epidemic in London claimed at least 3,000 lives - it eventually killed 6,536. The epidemic spread to France and North America later in the year. Cholera is spread through contaminated food and water but at the time, it was thought to be spread by a "miasma” - a bad smell - in the air.
