    Although my grandfather died in California and had his organs donated, my mother, his daughter, Carol A. Reichard nee Scheerschmidt,had him exhumed and flown back to Ohio. Using a photograph of him, she had a funeral home recreate his looks to have an viewing. He was then buried in Springfield Ohio next to his brother, William Scheerschmidt whose wife was buried on his other side. Own funrecreated

In 1913, in the year that Edward Scheerschmid was born, Henry Ford installed the first moving assembly line for the mass production of an entire automobile. It had previously taken 12 hours to assemble a whole vehicle - now it took only two hours and 30 minutes! Inspired by the production lines at flour mills, breweries, canneries and industrial bakeries, along with the disassembly of animal carcasses in Chicago’s meat-packing plants, Ford created moving belts for parts and the assembly line was born.

In 1948, he was 35 years old when on January 30th, Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated in New Delhi by a member of a Hindu nationalist party who thought that Gandhi was too accommodating to Muslims. The man, Nathuram Godse, shot Gandhi 3 times. He died immediately. The shooter was tried, convicted, and hung in November 1949.
