Edward Threston was a Knights Templar at The Sanford Cartulary*. This would have ennobled the Threston family sometime between 1200 and 1300 and Edward would have been Sir Edward Threston.+

Equally, should the Fellow be a married male his wife shall automatically and lawfully be know as 'Lady ----', with any and all children being known and recognised by the honorific 'The Hon.' (The Honourable) before their given names. A full and formal Investiture in exact accord and timing as approved by the Inner Court. At this juncture the candidate will be presented with a Warrant of Investiture, a white Mantle of Rank, the Sword of Rank and a Templar cross, enamelled in red and worn suspended from a neck ribbon.
After a period, normally five years, of good standing with the Order, Knight/Dame Templars may be offered advancement to the rank of Knight/Dame Commander”

Knights Templar and Knights Hospitaller
“In 1239 Sir Thomas de Sandford gave land to the Knights Templar enclave in Oxford's Temple Cowley. In the reign of Edward II the Templars were suppressed and in 1324 the Knights Hospitaller took over. In 1541 Henry VIII dissolved the order, and the land passed to Cardinal Sir Thomas Wolsey.”
