He had siblings Maria Elizabeth (Borrett) Down, Florence Matilda Borrett, Daisy Pawson Borrett, Peter James Jeffreys Borrett, John Robert Borrett, Peter James Thomas Borrett, Charles George Joseph Borrett, and Robina Amelia (Borrett) Bowyer. Edward Borrett married Emily (Biddick) Borrett in 1889, and died at age 69 years old in 1933.

It mandated that "In God We Trust" was to be placed on all United States coins and created a 2 cent coin. Later - in 1956 - "In God We Trust" replaced "E Pluribus Unum" - which means out of many, one - as the national motto.
