    Born to Elmer Nelson Mandeville and Augusta Dieter, the daughter of immigrants, Elmer was an only child. He taught high school history and social studies and he later became department chairman of history at Scarsdale High School in 1954. He was married twice and had no children.     Edwin Walter Mandeville was born to Elmer Nelson Mandeville (1879 - 1942) and Augusta Dieter (1879 - 1968). His father was born in Brooklyn, New York and his mother was born in Manhattan, New York. His maternal grandfather was born in Germany, as was his maternal grandmother. Edwin was an only child. By 1950, Edwin was divorced and living with his mother, Augusta. When he died, he was married to Evelyn Greenawalt.

    HEART ATTACK CAUSED DEATH IN CAR ACCIDENT Edwin W. Mandeville, a retired Scarsdale High School teach, was ruled to have died of a heart attack Tuesday by the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office. Three persons, including his wife and two nuns, were injured when the car he was driving at the time of the attack crashed into another on West Post Road in White Plains. Mr. Mandeville was born January 16, 1905 in Brooklyn and taught at City College of New York and at the Townsend-Harris School in New York city before coming to the Scarsdale public schools in 1942. He began as social studies teacher that year, and was promoted to department chairman of Scarsdale High School in 1954, a position he held until his retirement in 1973. Mr. Mandeville lived at 95 North Broadway in White Plains with his wife, Evelyn Greenawalt Mandeville, listed as his only living relative. - The Reporter Dispatch (White Plains, New York) Thursday, January 21, 1982 on page 4.
