Introduction

Edwin Rutherford (Brud) and I (Jackie) are 1st Cousins...Son and Dtr of 2 (ALLEN) Sisters, Maureen (Bunky) and Mollie (Mutt), Respectively...Brud & his Bro., Marion (Bow) lived in Naples, TX. on the ALLEN-FAMILY property as did most of the Family until their ''schooling'' was completed (Sr High/College/Trade/Voc.) Everyone started their ''own'' families, remaining closely connected in Naples and other adjacent towns...Remember, times and people lived very differently then...Edwin was born in '35...I, in 1947 and in CA. He was already a teenager the first time I remember him ..Always so funny, friendly and adventurous. Boys always went ''fishin''...Think ''Andy Griffith'', poles, buckets and all. "City'' kids(my bro.Jr and I) knew little to nothin' about ''Country'' livin' except that we could go barefoot mostly all the time. Also, ''they'' could go all sort of places..''We stayed on the one of the porches with Grandma Ora or another female relative..Men/Boys got up ''sunrise'' early, did all their ''farming''chores during the summer and ''off'' they went..Once when Edwin came home, we asked to see the fish he had in his tin pail...He was laughing but said ok! My bro. and I looked into that pail and screamed as loud as we could ! We ran crying and screamin' about the ''monsters'' Edwin had..His Mom looked to see what all the noise was about and she laughed so hard, ''Silly city kids had never seen ''cat fish'' with those long ugly whiskers...I didn't want to ever see one again even though Edwin tried to ensure me they weren't monsters..He taught us so much about the ''country'' ways of life every summer we visited. Edwin was always productive...excellent as a cabinet-maker, woodworking..as much as he was a businessman, property developer and rancher and cattleman..He raised ''prize'' steer as well as bulls...Always ''working. yet a loving, enterprising Husband (Berdie) and Father..He could utilize hours/days/weeks like no one I ever met before and I never saw him in a ''foul'' mood, although I'm sure he had his moments...His family loved and respected him and He will be deeply missed. I haven't been to Naples since he passed..I ''know'' it will never be the same.. Berdie has always been the ''glue'' that kept ''everything'' running smoothly day-to-day..What a Lady.! Edwin(Brud) surpassed the business accomplishments of our Grandfather, Hillis who headed the ALLEN Family, still well-known and respected to this day. We all loved him. I'll always remember the adventures and that East Texas ''drawl''...
