My grandmother was Mary Bernice Bourland Garland Moore, born 8/7/1893 and died in Chattanooga, TN in December, 1990. We knew Effie Diuguid as my grandmother's Aunt Effie, who lived on a farm near Paducah, Kentucky. My older sister and I, who mostly lived with our grandmother, accompanied her to Paducah for several years during late summer. We spent many hours picking blackberries on Effie's farm, playing with other family members. In the evenings, we caught lightning bugs on the front lawn while the adults sat in lawn chairs and drank iced tea beneath the pear trees. My most vivid memories of Aunt Effie and her home (other than the blackberries and lightning bugs) involved high feather beds, beautiful and ornate "slop jars" (the farm had an outhouse--to scary to use at night) and her son William, who often took the children on outings during the days.
