Effingham Deans was born in 1863 to James Deans and Sarah (Moran) Deans, and had siblings James Deans, William Deans, Janet Tennant (Deans) Green, and Mary Barr (Deans) Collier. He married Teresa Mary (Kotthoff) Deans, and had children Joseph William Deans and Teresa May Lee. Effingham Deans died at age 76 years old in 1939.

DEANS. - On November 23, at his residence, 23 Schild-street, Yarraville, Effingham Deans, the dearly loved husband of the late Teresa, and loving father of James, Dolly ( Mrs. C. A. Lee, Yarraville ), Jack, Eff., Daisy ( Mrs. E. Rooks, Yarraville ), William ( deceased ),and Janet ( deceased ). Aged 76 years. Peacefully sleeping.
