    MOSKALENKO - Efim Moskalenko, 700 Campbell St., age 71 died Thursday, March 30, 1961 at Hurley Hospital. Funeral services will be held 1 PM, Saturday, April 1, 1961 from Colonial Chapel, Reigle Funeral Home, 2417 S. Saginaw St. Rev. Father Alex Znamensky officiating. Burial in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Mr. Moskalenko will remain at the funeral home. Memorial services will be held at the funeral home 8 PM Friday. He was a former employee of Fisher Body Division and self employed as a carpenter. Surviving are: Wife, Stella; son, George Moskelenko in Russia; daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Teeples of Flint; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters in Russia. (Flint Journal March 30, 1961 p. 46)

In 1890, in the year that Efim Moskalenko was born, on December 29th, the Wounded Knee Massacre occurred in South Dakota on the Lakota Pine Ridge Indian Reservation . The U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment said that they rode into the Lakota camp "trying to disarm" the inhabitants. One person, Black Coyote - who was deaf - held onto his rifle, saying that he paid a lot of money for it. Shots rang out and by the end at least 153 Lakota Sioux - some estimates say 300 - and 25 troops had died. The site of the massacre is a National Historic Landmark.

In 1919, by the time this person was 29 years old, the "Black Sox Scandal" rocked baseball fans during the World Series. Eight players on the Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the World Series, thus allowing the Cincinnati Reds to win, and making money off of the losses. All of the players were found not guilty by a jury but the fallout lasted for decades. The players were banned from baseball even though they were found innocent.
