Eileen was my great grandmother. She was a feisty lady with a very proper accent - she said 'gel' instead of girl. When she was very elderly and I was a young teenager and both recovering from separate accidents, we spent a week together in my grandparents (Her son Larry and daughter-in-law Doll McGregor's) house reading Mills and Boon in bed (those books were pretty tame 30 years ago, but we giggled a lot). The saddest event in Great Grandma's life was the death of her son Robbie, a POW in Sandakan, 1945, so close to the end of the damned War! At 100 years old she would still tear up when she spoke of him and how she used to send food via the Red Cross but it never got to him. I always remember them both on ANZAC Day. Rowena McGregor
