Eli Jacob Dessery was born to Claude Hypolite Louis Dessery (1848 - 1926) and Sophie E. Regnier (1855 - 1902). His father was born in France and his mother was born in Illinois. Eli had one brother and one sister, David L. and Ruby Lorena Dessery. Eli Dessery married Margaret Lewis Flanders (1875 - 1951) on July 25, 1902 in Salina, Kansas. He then married Elisabeth Schick on January 23, 1952. His third marriage was to Leola Armes. Eli died at the age of 101 in Redondo Beach in Southern California.

He was married three times: first to Margaret Lewis Flanders (1875 - 1951) in 1902 in Salina, Kansas. Next, he married Elisabeth Schick on January 23, 1952. His third marriage was to Leola Armes.
