  • Introduction

The Quambatook Times. Victoria. 24th November 1915. DEATH OF MRS. ELIZA McIVER. General regret was expressed on Saturday last when the sad news was made known that Mrs. McIver had had passed away to the Great Beyond ( from whence no traveller returns ) at the residence of her son-in-law, Mr. D. Gardiner, Oakvale. The deceased lady who had reached the ripe old age of 88 years, was one of the earliest settlers in these northern parts, having arrived here with her husband 35 years ago. Towards the end of last year the old lady met with a painful accident by having her leg broken, caused by knocked down by a door which was blown open by during one of the severe wind storms then experienced. She was attended at the private hospital, and partly recovered, but no doubt the shock was a severe blow to her health, and she had been invalid ever since. About three weeks ago Mrs. McIvor was taken ill, but owing to her extreme age very little could be done, and she failed rapidly, not withstanding every care and attention by her daughter and granddaughter's, from whom she received constant and loving nursing, and she passed away on Friday evening. Her husband predeceased her about 15 years ago, when he succumbed to injuries received while endeavoring to extinguish a fire in his house which was caused by the accidental overturning of a lamp, and since that time she has resided with her daughter, Mrs. D. Gardiner. Mrs. McIvor was a cheerful old lady. She was highly esteemed, and made a host of friends throughout the district. Three daughters and a son survive her, viz, Mrs. C. Pentland, and Mrs. D. Gardiner, of Oakvale, Mrs. P. Kelly, of Gippsland, and Mr. W. McIvor, who is living in Sydney. Another son Archie, died many years ago.
