She married Arthur Jacob Arshawsky on March 3, 1942 and they later divorced on October 10, 1945. They had a child Steven Kern “Steve” Shaw. She would also marry Jack Cummings in 1947 and they later divorced. They had a child Linda Kern Cummings. Elizabeth Kern died at age 77 years old on April 5, 1996 in Danville, Boyle County, KY.

In 1918, in the year that Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Kern was born, on November 11th, an armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany, ending the fighting on the Western Front in World War I. This meant a complete defeat of Germany although Germany never formally surrendered. It took another six months of negotiations to sign an actual peace treaty between the warring parties.
