Elizabeth (Corless) Unkles was born in 1870 to James Corless and Winifred (O'Halloran) Corless, and had siblings James Eric Vincent Corless, Delia Bridget (Corless) Furnell, Catherine (Corless) Blackman, Margaret Corless, John Corless, Josephine Theresa (Corless) Watts, Winifred Monica (Corless) Robinson, Mary Molly (Corless) Jeckeln, and Patrick Corless. She married Samuel John Unkles, and died at age 73 years old on September 3, 1944. Elizabeth Unkles was buried at Rookwood Catholic Cemetery in Rookwood, Cumberland City Council County, NSW Australia.

    The Sydney Morning Herald. NSW. 13th September 1944. Mrs. JECKELN and Mrs. J. WATTS of 64 Manning Road, Double Bay, wish to THANK relatives, friends and neighbors for their kind expressions of sympathy, floral tributes and telegrams in their recent sad bereavement, also to thank the sisters and nursing staff of No. 4 ward of the Rachel Forster Hospital, for their kindness and attention to their late dear sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Unkles. Please accept this as our personal thanks.

In 1884, Elizabeth was just 14 years old when on May 1st, the Federation of Organized Trades and Labor Unions - a US association - first resolved that "eight hours shall constitute a legal day's labour from and after May 1, 1886, and that we recommend to labour organisations throughout this jurisdiction that they so direct their laws as to conform to this resolution by the time named." Previously, workdays would consist of 10 to 16 hours a day - 6 days a week. It would take years before the 8 hour workday became common practice - and longer before it became a law.
