WYANT Elizabeth "Lizzie" F. (Morris) Wyant, 87, of Ruckersville, Virginia passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2009. at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. She was born on January 9, 1922, in Greene County, to the late Charlie and Edna Morris. Elizabeth married Winfred R. Wyant in 1943, living in Barboursville and Greene County throughout her life and most recently at Heritage Hall in Charlottesville. Elizabeth and Winfred were blessed with four children and were married for over 60 years until his death in 2004. She was employed at the Orange Silk Mill, Daniel's Truck Stop, Circle Inn Motel, and later cared for children in her home before her retirement. She was a member of First Bible Baptist Church in Stanardsville, Virginia. Mrs. Wyant was a two-time cancer survivor and is still regarded as a "miracle" case-study at the University of Virginia, a testament to her faith, strength and tenacious spirit. Elizabeth, also known as "Liz", "Lizzie", "Mama", "Mrs. Wyant","Grandma" and "Mee Maw", will be best remembered for her love of her family, racing, fishing, cooking, gardening, canning and yard sales. She was an excellent gardener, winning numerous awards in the Greene and Albemarle County Fair for her flowers, vegetables and canned goods. Her love of racing started in the mid 1960's as the co-owner of a stock car, competing in tracks throughout Virginia. The passion for this sport naturally passed to her children and grandchildren, who successfully compete today on race teams winning many races and championships in go-karts, street stock, and late model stock cars. She was a creative and artistic perfectionist which could be seen in everything she did from the way she meticulously decorated her Christmas trees and Easter eggs to her needlepoint work. Elizabeth was an outstanding cook, always baking perfect biscuits and cornbread "from scratch". Mrs. Wyant was pre-deceased by her parents; husband, Winfred; and siblings, George "Buck" Morris and James and Peggy Morris, who both died in infancy. She is survived by two sons, Winfred R. Wyant Jr. and his wife, Paula, of Scottsville, Charles Wade Wyant and his wife, Brenda, of Stanardsville; two daughters, Peggy Dettor and her husband, Jimmy, of Charlottesville and Barbara Roach of Ruckersville; eight grandchildren, Lisa Wyant of Troy, Tina Breeden and her husband, Tony, of Scottsville, Nicole Wyant of Scottsville, Karen Long and her husband, Lance, of Quinton, Philip Morris and his wife, Donna, of Ruckersville, Warren Scott Roach and his wife, Sharon, of Ruckersville, Robbie Morris and his wife, Katherine, of Ruckersville and Charles Wyant II of Stanardsville; 15 great-grandchildren, Lil Scottie, Tyler and Travis Roach of Ruckersville, Allison, Blake and Tye Morris of Ruckersville, Daniel Helmes of Scottsville, Hannah, Matthew and Adam Breeden of Scottsville, Dylan and Lance Long, II of Quinton, Kaitlyn Wyant of Troy; and Luke and Sophie Morris of Ruckersville; one sister, Joyce M. Shifflett of Ruckersville and a sister-in-law, Mary E. Morris of Ruckersville; and numerous nieces, nephews and many great friends. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2009, at First Bible Baptist Church in Stanardsville by Pastor James E. Woods. Interment will follow at the family cemetery located at 1037 Moore Road in Ruckersville. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 2009, at the Ryan Funeral Home. Ryan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. vgreene.com/ryanfuneralhome
