Elizabeth Jane Tredrea of Hamilton Australia was born in 1865 to Richard Leah Tredrea and Eliza Whipdale (Curnow) Tredrea. She had siblings Sarah Grace Tredrea Cory, Mary Ellen Tredrea, John Tredrea, Eliza Ann Sweatman, and Abraham Tredrea. Elizabeth Tredrea died at age 23 years old in 1888 in Hamilton.

In 1865, in the year that Elizabeth Jane Tredrea was born, on September 26th, Champ Ferguson, a Confederate guerrilla, became the first person to be convicted of war crimes arising from the Civil War. (There was only one other person convicted of war crimes in the Civil War.) He was found guilty by a U.S. Army tribunal on 23 charges arising from the murder of 53 people. On October 20, he was hung.
