  • Introduction

    Elizabeth M Wassam was married to Ralph Wassam, who was raised in Neodesha, Kansas in a home that was built in 1889 and would eventually be the home of Kansas Governor, Harry Woodring who went on to be Secratary of Defense to FDR in the 1930s. This house now belongs to me. I am researching all of the occupants and history of our 125-year-old home. It just so happens, I am a genealogist and author.

In 1891, in the year that Elizabeth M Wassam was born, from March 9th through the 12th, a blizzard hit the south and west of England. Called the Great Blizzard of 1891, it led to snow drifts of up to 15 feet and killed 200 people and 6,000 animals. Fourteen ships sank.

In 1917, Elizabeth was 26 years old when Russian government offices were seized and the Romanov's Winter Palace was stormed in the Russian February and October Revolutions. The February revolution resulted in the abdication of Tsar Nicholas and a coalition of the Parliament and workers parties taking control of the government. The October revolution resulted in Lenin and the Bolsheviks taking complete control.
