She married Arlie Dee Reed circa August 28, 1942, and they were married until Arlie's death on May 28, 2006. She had a child Karen June (Reed) Holwick. Elma Reed died at age 89 years old on June 25, 2011 in Albuquerque, and was buried at Santa Fe National Cemetery Section 13 Site 550 501 North Guadalupe Street, in Santa Fe.

The book covers the experiences of an Irishman in Dublin on an ordinary day, 16 June 1904. Now considered a classic, it was controversial at the time.
