2 Memories, Stories & Photos about Elsie

Sorry I just realised that my last post should have been a story about Elsie and. I put it in the wrong section. As for a detail though. I do seem to remember that she had diabetes.

I am the daughter of Shirley Lindsey (Jansen) and the grandaughter of Dorothy May Corrigan, Elsie's sister. I have great memories of Aunty Elsie and remember that she had a great sense of humour. She was a regular visitor to our house in Hawthorn and she visited every Monday when we moved to North Blackburn. My mum used to pick up Aunty Elsie and Auntie Ada in Auburn every Monday morning and drive them to our North Blackburn home. They would stay for lunch and the evening meal and then mum would drive them home. At times I would drive them home.

Aunty Elsie always wanted to know if I had met any nice young men. She would say " have you done any good for yourself yet?", as I said she had a great sense of humour. She also used to say that she would set me up with one of her grandsons which I used to think was weird as he would be a relative ( she may have been joking). I remember going to her daughter's house in Hawthorn? And the grandson was there and I was embarrassed - I don't think I talked to him!!

I remember that Aunty Elsie and Aunty Ada would quarrel sometimes. Aunty Ada used to annoy Aunty Elsie. Mum used to get embarrassed when she drove them home as Aunty Ada would sit in the back seat and Aunty Ellsie would sit I the front seat. Aunty Ada liked to talk a lot and Aunty Elsie would be saying to mum " just listen to her she is so annoying!!! Even though Aunty Ada was quite deaf mum used to worry in case she heard.

I didn't see Aunty Elsie's immediate family much growing up but I remember her daughter Dot and her daughters Coral and Marleen.

Aunty Elsie's son Harold used to work on the door of the Hawthorn Town Hall dance and I would see him every time I attended the dance.

I also remember Elsie's son Roy visiting us with his wife Jean.
