She had siblings Mabel Agnes Cooper, Alan Crofts Cooper, Gordon Cooper, Henry Cooper, and Edward Cooper. She married Arthur William Brereton in 1933, and had a child Campbell Crofts Brereton. Elsie Brereton died at age 75 years old on May 26, 1983 in Mount Waverley, City of Monash County.
