My grandmother Marguerite was married to Emil Hohendorf. One of my childhood memories was going to thier home on Thanksgiving, sitting on his lap and watching the Lions play. This was my introduction to NFL football and I am still a huge fan. I saw him last in the hospital in Port Charlotte FL where he was being treated for end stage lung disease. He looked so sick and I remember being scared to hug him. The last thing he said to me was to promise him that I would not smoke. Today, I practice as a respiratory therapist taking care of people like my grandpa. Thanksgiving is soon and my thoughts turn to him. I can't watch the game without thinking of him. Go Lions!
