Emilie (Amelia) Reincke (Mayne)
Emilie was my great grandmother. She died in 1945 when I was 2 years of age but I still remember her as a lovely lady with a great smile.
Her maiden name was incorrectly recorded as Renecke on her marriage details.
She arrived in Melbourne from Germany on the La Rochelle in January 1957 as a 3 year old with her parents & 3 siblings, another 8 were born in Australia.
Because Emilie, when pronounced in German, sounded like Emilia, she adopted the more recognised name of Amelia.
When her father, Peter died in January 1902, she was listed among the surviving children, Amelia 48 years old.
